The Learning Lab
Ben grew up in Bovina Center and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1985.  Following college at Canton CTC, Ben moved to Syracuse where he worked for North Syracuse Construction, and where Ben met his wife, Betsy.  Following shared ambition and wonder, Ben and Betsy made Anchorage, Alaska their home in 1994.  Ben earned his bachelor’s degree at The University of Alaska Anchorage.

The birth of their daughter was the final call home for Betsy and Ben, they returned to New York in 1997.  Ben worked in Syracuse area schools before securing a full-time position at Walton Central School, teaching Global History and Geography.  After two years, Ben took a position at Downsville Central School where he taught middle and high-school social studies.  Since returning from Alaska, Ben earned his master’s degree online at Capella University.

Again, ambition spurred Ben to explore a new undertaking and the benefits it could create.  After teaching in since 1996, Ben resigned his public-school job in 2006 to develop The Learning Lab.

Ben and Betsy are raising Elise and Shane in DeLancey.

Indiepay
A film production payroll company, focusing on films produced in the New York City area.  New York State and City has made it attractive to produce movies in the state with a 15% rebate on production costs incurred while shooting in New York State.  Indiepay has developed unique software that separates eligible items, for ease of reporting purposes to New York State.

The Delhi office currently works with entering payroll related data, grossing time cards, entering hours worked into a payroll grid, and miscellaneous earnings or adjustments.  Scanned, faxed, e-mailed information, and remote connection with the home office in Manhattan are essential to this payroll work and the eCenter of Delaware County provides the space and connections that are necessary to do so.  A goal of Indiepay is to outsource to Delaware County the payroll end of movie production and employ more individuals as the film industry picks up in the late spring and summer months.
